Our 7 year old beagle was in pain for 2 weeks (on steroids/pain meds) and twisted out of her bed sunday AM in 3 yelps - then went into a constant shrieking roar, can\'t find any where to get comfortable, tried crawling into my lap.

Took her to ER vet, they gave hydro (pain killer) shot, within 30 minutes she was panting but didn\'t roar as much. We took her to get an MRI and C2/C3 is ruptured and pushing against her nerves. She had surgery the next day. She\'s still at the vet post-op, we haven\'t started cage rest yet.

That shrieking yell, I don\'t want to ever hear again, it\'s been haunting and I wake up in the middle of the night hearing it. I will update progress if I can, if anyone is reading this.

I came across your page looking for info on IVDD in Beagles. I wept as I read about your final days with your beautiful Tinker but I was also filled with great hope. Hope for my sweet Charlie boy. He is about 8 years old and is 11 days out from his surgery for a ruptured disc. His was very sudden. He was running across the back yard to greet our neighbors dog at the fence and just went down with a horrible scream of pain. I thought at first he had broken his leg or hip because it was not moving. After a transfer to a neurologist 2 hours away and an MRI to confirm he was in surgery within 24 hours of going down. They gave us a 75% chance of recovery of his back legs. He is currently still paralyzed but does have deep pain still. Stitches come out in 2 days and then physical therapy starts in 12 days. We have been doing all the things. you talk about to keep those muscles strong. Like your Tinker he still has this beautiful love for life and everyone in it. He loves his daily time in the yard using the sling and is the fastest wheelbarrow I have ever seen. The hardest thing he is having to adjust to right now is not being able to sleep in the bed with me like he has every day for the last 6 years. My son and I are taking turns on an air mattress to be more down on his level beside him. I pray that you have found some peace since you said goodbye to your beautiful. Beagles truly are special dogs. What a wonderful gift you were to each other. I am hopeful that my Charlie still has many more adventures ahead of him like your Tinker did after this horrible injury. Hugs to you.

I\'m so glad to have found your website, and saddened to learn that your beautiful Beagles have crossed over the rainbow bridge.

My own girl (not a Beagle but apparently a dachshund terrier sumpin mix) had 3 ruptured discs and had surgery to remove the offending matter. That was at the end of September. Now it\'s the middle of December and she\'s learning to deal with IVDD and to get around expertly in her wheelchair. It\'s been quite an adjustment for both of us. Her mini dachshund sister (by pack, not by blood) has been surprisingly accepting of all that\'s gone on. Bless her little heart. Bless them both.

And bless you, both of you, and your little ones who brought you, and others, so much joy for so many years.

Abby and Lucy\'s mom :)

I have a 5 yr old beagle and she has been diagnosed with a ruptured disc and will be getting surgery this week. Your blog has given me hope that she will be okay. I have been upset for the past few days over her being so bad. Sunday she could atleast walk, and when we got home that night she just got worse. So now it is Tuesday and she is at the drs awaiting surgery. They are waiting on the radiology results to see how bad it is and go from there.

I'm very happy to have come across your blog as it has given me high hopes for her. I'm very happy to see that your beagle has made a full recovery. Thank you and your dog for inspiration =)

Thank you so much for having this website. Our dog Maxie had surgery a few days ago and came home yesterday. She sleeps most of the day, thanks to her medication and had begun to eat and drink a little. She is able to walk but her left side is really weak, so it is a very uncoordinated walk. We've been trying to figure out what will happen in the upcoming weeks and months and your website was a wealth of information! I hope your puppy is doing better.

My beagle mix Baxter is approx 11 or 12 (a rescue as an adult) and has already had one surgery for this in 2009 and is possibly facing another. Please pray for him. Thank God that your Tinker is doing well. What a sweet little guy he seems to be! Congrats!
