I was told that my grandfather came from treorchy before moving to kidwelly to work. I am not sure whether I should post my request at this location but perhaps you can come back and advise me.

I would welcome any information on my grandfather’s family (David Henry Davies born 2.7.1887) who lived in Treorchy/Pontypridd area. He left there to work in the colliery in kidwelly and married my grandmother (Charlotte Muriel Bynean), His father’s name was Benjamin Davies, born 17.4.1851 and his mother was Sarah born 17.6.1851. My grandfather had 5 brothers (William born 1.1.1874, John born 8.2.1877, James born 8.7.1882. Thomas J. born 17.1.1884 and Henry born 17.2.1886) and 2 sisters (Martha J. born 23.6.1878 and Martha A. born 9.9.1881. I have this information from my grandfather’s bible. If anyone can give me any help I would be grateful.

my mother Bette John was born in Treorchy in 1920 .She grew up at 158 High St where her parents Richard and Margaret John ran an ironmongers shop which closed in about 1960. Mum died 2 years ago. My sister and I are thinking of visiting Treorchy . If anybody can give me any help or knew any member of the family I would be grateful if you could let me know.

I have an old family portrait photograph, postcard size, obviously Victorian, and of excellent quality. Bought in an Oxfam shop in Newport and anxious, if at all possible, to hopefully eventually pass it on to any descendants of the people in the photo. There's nothing, unfortunately, on it to identify the people in it. It was taken at D. J, Ryan photographic studio at 110 Bute Street, Treorchy. I have done my best to establish whether or not this business still exists, but it appears that it does not.
Has anyone any suggestions as to how I might achieve my aim?.....via Google I have searched for any studios in the area, but rather than just pass it to one who may not be particularly interested, and for it to maybe subsequently just become "lost", I'd rather hold onto the photo till I can find a good home for it.....it is in mint condition and the subjects very clear and distinct

H great site. I was looking at the 'oldies' in your photos section, In your picture of the Coronation party at Treorchy Boys Club, after Kay Parry sits my cousin Enid Powell then Meryl Powell then myself Anne Williams (nurses uniform wearing crown).
I expect you hve had many replies regarding the picture sent in by Colin Warman of Treorchy Junior School, I recognise a few but cannot remember their names, I think the 4th boy in from the right in the front row is Norman Williams (they ran a bus company in ? Cardiff St, the buses were parked along the riverside).The eighth girl in from the right in the 2nd row is Christine Jarman.
I have enjoyed my visit to the site, I will now be visiting it regularly.
