Where do the approaches for the 22's start?? depending if its GPS or ILS?? i really would like to know
I guess it depends on the situation. If it's night and there are only 1 or 2 flights to land at JFK, Tracon can line them up with the runway as little as 2 miles out for a visual. The other end of the rainbow would be heavy traffic or some other situation where they can line up with the runway over 20 miles out.
New York likes lining up approaches at short distances from the runway - at all area airports (why, I don't know). I remember when I used to spot at ORD, they would frequently have inbound aircraft join the localizer at 40 or more miles out.
