I think the most easy way to get start about Charity activity is to join a formal big charity group and learn from them.

This will be just like if you want to start a new business and you can BUY BUSINESS first and just learn quickly.

SAA of course can be a good start point.

Today I check with one of the Charity group, who help very poor children in other country (I am sure your know what I mean), they say people can group together and help them. I just said what if I group with some friends and do work for them.

One of the activity we can help them to do is to sell "old book", so other can get knowledge from the book. Very good start point I think.

What we need is give them one contact point, this contract point will be the middle man between our group and the charity group.

From my point of view, start helping elder and child is a good example as THEY NEED HELP.
