He's a Datuk/Dato' in Malaysia. The English translation is wrong. A Datuk is not a Justice of Peace. It is an honorary title similar to a "British knighthood" bestowed to people who are perceived as having "contributed" to the Malaysian society in general. The Datuk title is granted by the King while the Dato' is granted by the state ruler (the Sultan or governer). A Datuk/Dato' does not hold any special powers though most people accord them with some "respect"..wink.

Most Datuks are either rich, business people, or politicians. Anyway, Michelle Yeoh is a Datuk. The Datuk's wife is called a "Datin". But then, what is Michelle Yeoh's future husband's title? Anybody can help here?

Anyway, I feel compelled to explain to dispel the misconception.
