Where was your most unusual holiday.

Have you been to unusual places or taken very different holidays tell us about them

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

If you would like a holiday with a difference,a grown up one,try Cuba. Havanah is an exciting thriving place which just has to be seen. The old american cars, the people and just the bustle of it all.

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

What about the Gambia. This is a holiday with a difference.Very up and coming area, beautiful hotels and stunning coast lines.Very hot.Lying around the pool with lizards under your sunloungers and monkeys in the trees above is quite an experience.

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

undoubtedly China--absolutely amazing then in 1999 as it was just coming out [so to speak]--I would revisit again anytime [well maybe not in deep mid winter or high summer!!!]

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

China sounds very interesting a place i would love to visit but have not got there yet. I found Cuba very interesting and captivating and would definately go again.

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

My Hubbie and I have recently returned from a 'holiday' in Beijing ... Fantastic!

My Son has lived and worked there for 18 months now and intends staying until after the 2008 Olympics, having not seen him for a while we decided to visit ... Mountains and Mohammed spring to mind

We could not believe the changes that are being made, sometimes, I think personally, to the detriment of the city and it's people! Much of old Beijing is being demolished and skyscrapers built in their stead, a great shame although some of the new builds are amazing!

We also took a sleeper train down to Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors ... words can't begin to describe how absolutely amazing the sight of these were, the figures themselves are haunting and the sheer size of the area mind blowing .....

We will definately be going back to China, perhaps not to Beijing, this time we will try to see more of the countryside. We will leave it in the hands of my Lad to set the itinerary .. he has been to quite a few different areas since he has been living there! One of his more memorable trips was horseriding in Mongolia ... beware the saddles are made of wood (he still bears the scars )!

My advice is to go now before it becomes too Westernised, although having said that it probably is already

Re: Where was your most unusual holiday.

HI

I could not agree more about China and Beijing and Xian--the terracotta army all pieced together from broken fragments and still being excavated and worked on was superb and hauntingly beautiful-- almost impossible to believe that such work was done thousands of years ago with machinery-- Now mention the GREAT WALL--yes there were the beginnings of rampant commercialisation when we visited a few years ago and it is probably worse now but can you blame them for that in reality--- what an impressive construction made even more impressive when one considers the thousands of lives lost in its creation, the ability to build it without any form of machinery and , on a lighter note, it was probably built on time and to budget unlike WEMBELY STADIUM!!!!

And I have not mentioned the Forbidden City, the Summer Palaces and the Bell Towers [even though one now looks onto the air con of a Mac Donalds!! truly amazing

I had better sign off now as I have some packing to do-- heading for my historical and magical villa in Florida at the week end-- ready to take in the culture sights of Kissimmee, DISNEY and all that!!!
