Does anyone have any info of either of these tracks ? My father did the painting and lettering for a car that raced at both tracks. It was Archies Amoco on Mystic ave in Medford , Ma. The car was driven by John Caley .I was only 5 to 7 years old but those memories have stayed with me all my life. To this day the only cars I enjoy watching is still the Modifieds, unfortunately I live in Maine and must travel or catch an occasional show here.

Thanks for the info and the e mail address . The years were 1954 thru 59 I believe . I was real young but those nites that my dad was painting the car are still real vivid in my mind . I remember that the car number was #5 and that it was involved in a bad wreck and was rebuilt and re numbered 5x. The car was either a 32 or 34 ford cut down I think it ran a flat head v-8

I've been doing some research on Medford recently and I'll probably make some more progress on it over the offseason. Channel1 Video has a series called "That Was Racing" and features old footage from the 1950s at W. Peabody (in color!) and Norwood as well.

I remember your Grandfathers car as # 134 and seeing him run at Norwood and Thompson in the late sixties and early seventies. He was always a good driver and a good competitor at any of the tracks he raced on. I've been recently been going to the vintage mod site as I am trying to build as many models of the cars that I use to watch race . I may have been wrong on the motor ,but I do remember that the car was painted red was numbered 5 then rebuilt as 5x. As I stated before the owner of the car was Archies Amoco which was located on Mystic ave Medford Ma. Almost across from the roller skating rink . The driver was John Caley and I believe he left this ride to race a corvette for a chevy dealer in Cambridge . I also remember that it raced against a 2 car team of 44 and 444 . I see that you live in Ca. I lived there in El Cajon from 83 -86 attending races on Sat. nites ,another great track gone. I was friends with mechanic of the black 99 super stock which was track champion.

Was a storied track for sure and came into prominence following the loss of Balboa Stadium.

The wife and I would periodically drive the 150 miles from the desert to the coast to attend. The supermodifieds put on a spectacular show at that place.

I agree, El Cajon Speedway was a great track in the 80's. I lived in North County San Diego (1986 - 1992) and was at the track nearly every Saturday night. The racing was great and the show was tight and well run. The 99 ran a good season...but Ed Hale's #7 was our favorite. Perhaps it was the red-black-white color scheme and the same number of Barney Mattie's car from Norwood Arena in the late 60's. Another great track gone!
