I have been unable to explain why my grandfather made the above move. He joined up in 1917 and served through to 1919. In looking at the medal cards, there appears to have been a large group of soldiers, all with sequential numbers that moved from the RWR to the 12th Battalion of the RIR. Does anyone know whether the RWR operated training battalions that provided troops to the RIR (which was in the Ulster Division - so a strange move)? As it appears that about 100 were moved in one go.
