Although the mobile skatepark capital cost was funded by CAP councillors from 4 wards, the running costs still have to be funded on a per-day basis, at least until Paul Fenton can get outside funding. Negotiations have been taking place to attempt to provide a weekly event in Ashton, but as I'm no longer a councillor and everyone is away on holiday anyway, I'm not sure how far they've got.

Your thanks are appreciated - we hope you'll have occasion to repeat them, for the benefit of all skateboard fans in Ashton.

Although some of you never believed it, we were never opposed in principle to a skateboard park - we just believed that Jubilee Park was a non-starter as a location. (We have yet to see anything but empty words to prove otherwise.)

In the meantime, while some people score political points over false promises, we have at least delivered something! Less than you want, but we hope better than nothing at all.

In response to Aaron, the inaugural visit to the market was actually attended by myself, Brian Merry, Don Hodgkinson, Gary Wilkes, Paul Tushingham, Bob Brierley (CAP Hindley Green), Keith Cunliffe (Labour cabinet member for Community Protection) and Chris Ready (Labour cabinet member for Community Involvement), as well as members of Friends Around Bryn and ACCA.

We hope that the non- Ashton and Bryn councillors we invited will have been inspired to support and extend the project, and to encourage the council to assist in helping to obtain long-term funding for the running costs, so that Ashton and other areas can gain the maximum possible benefit from our investment
