Adele, I don't live in Ashton anymore so I cant really help you, but try Gulliver's world here in Warrington, I can remember going as a kid, a classic display if I recall correctly.
A word of warning, DON'T go the bonfires on Ashton heath, it attracts the undesirables (like myself and my companions), but last year I about 5 police vans came because of a mass gang brawl, haha. So we briskly walked to the pub, :)
