Message:   On this website you publicised an event at the Presidential in aid of Everyman, that being a charity to raise awareness about testicular cancer.
Testicular cancer is generally a young mans cancer, the younger generally get a terratoma that is likely to spread rapidly affecting the lymph nodes, older people generally up to the middle thirties get a semi noma that is less likely to spread.
Awkward people like me wait until they are forty then have a 10cm secondary growth from the type that don’t usually spread.
Since the discovery of platinum based chemotherapy drugs just over 25 years ago the cure rate for this form of cancer when it is spreading in the blood stream has risen from around 30% to over 90%.

Next Saturday 24th the Pat Seed Appeal is having a collection in Wigan to raise money for equipment at The Christie Hospital.

WHO WAS PAT SEED
In a nutshell Pat Seed was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she heard about a revolutionary X ray machine called a CAT scanner. Too late for her, but none the less she set about raising the money for one at The Christie Hospital. No sooner had she started, she was told the law didn’t allow for the NHS to accept the money for equipment. So she got the law changed. She was then told there wa no funding for the first years operation, so she raised more.
Sadly Pat despite defying all the prognosis of her death, died shortly after her husband was killed in what is now known as “the Abbeystead pumping station disaster.”

It is normal to have memorial of some kind to brave women like Pat Seed. That memorial is the continuation of her work for the Christie Hospital. The old EMI CAT scanner has gone, replaced by two state of the art new CAT scanners and much more life saving equipment.

Please join me next Saturday collecting for The Christie Hospital. The organiser, Pauline Heaton will be in the foyer of Morrison’s in Wigan and will be glad of your help .
I hope you never need that equipment.
I am grateful to Pat Seed for helping me live another twenty years.

Thank You
Alan
