Ras Skerries finish - details

Hi Folks,
As you may know Ireland greatest yearly sporting event is currently underway "FBD Insurance RÁS" Ireland's premier international cycling stage race

The RÁS started last Sunday 18th May and is scheduled to finish in Skerries this coming Sunday 25th May after racing (including over some this country's toughest mountain climbs) a total of 1,226km (in excess of 760 miles) in 8 days which is equivalent to over 95 miles per (or 3.5 marathons
per day)

STAGE 8, SUNDAY 25TH MAY, NEWBRIDGE to SKERRIES 130k
I would like to confirm that Skerries has been selected to host the FBD Insurance RÁS - Ireland's premier international cycling stage race final stage for the third year running on Sunday the 25th of May 2008.

The Stage end committee will once again use this event as a focal point for Street Party on Strand Street. This will extend from the area in, front of Saint Patrick's Church down as far as the Methodist Church. Activities will include an International Food Fair, Funfair Stalls, Giant Games, Toddler Pay Zone, Kids body art and a host of professional street
entertainer". The Street Part will start up at 12.30 pm and the race itself should arrive in the town around 2.30pm/3.00pm (depending wind direction, speed etc;), doing 3 laps of the hinterland before finishing up at around 4.30pm to 5.30pm with the presentation of prizes for the winners.

The race is scheduled to reach Balrothery at approx 2.25pm travel up through the Black Hills to the "Cross of the Cage" across on to the
Skerries/Lusk road where it will head into Skerries taking a right at theroundabout, left at the Golf Links, left on to Strand Street, left at the
Monument and travel down Thomas Hand Street turning right at Xtravision on to the Balbriggan Road travelling North along the coast road and left under
the railway bridge passing Ardgillian and on to the T junction at the "Cross of the Cage" and across on to the Skerries/Lusk road where it again repeat this lap back in to Skerries when it will finish on it's 3rd entry on to Strand Street.

Please note that during the Skerries lap(s) there will be traffic restrictions (between 2.30pm & 4.30pm) and the route will be manned by both Race Marshalls and An Garda Siochana for the duration of the race.

Come to Skerries this coming Sunday and don't miss this great opportunity of seeing the very best Irish cyclists doing battle over Irish roads with national and professional teams from many parts of the world,
