Thanks for that - look forward to hearing progress on T.3!
As you may have read on the appropriate page T.2 DID actually make it out of the depot and was seen heading for Upminster yeaterday afternoon (9 Feb 05), so I presume Malcolm Dobell and his team have given it the OK!
As for the reinstatement of the link at Upminster, the photos I posted up recently were taken in late January - I don't know a commissioning date. We do have a couple of Upminster drivers who visit this site quite regularly, so perhaps they can shed some more details on this.
As for the commissioning process, I think it's been anticipated for quite a while that road transportation is not 'ideal' and would present a problem once the programme was up to full speed! Certainly the idea of using West Ruislip was considered (after all, it's one of the reasons it was built as it is - even most of the recent new deliveries have gone through there - 95, 96 TS's and IIRC the refurbed 73TS too, though not sure on that!) but it seems that this route has been discounted. I've heard various suggestions as to why it is not viable, though all seem a bit 'thin' to me!
Your story of the return of T.2 demonstrates clearly the need for something better 'long term'.
I think that Upminster must be the solution they have in mind. I know that EWS have been awarded a contract, though not the routes involved, and I've also heard that there is a plan to acquire an ex BR Class 20 for use at Upminster. Draw your own conclusions? |
