There you go Colin - from the horses mouth - though don't believe the bit about the 'classy' end of the line

On a more serious note, I suppose the reason for the lack of knowledge is as much to do with the fact that they were intended for the H&C as anything, though how passengers were supposed to know the difference between a C & D Stock I don't know - after all, they were both natural aluminium back then!

As I travelled the line today I tried to have a good look at one of them, and I reckon Jim's right about them being yellow - certainly the diamond shaped plates look yellow - at least as far as I could make out under years of dirt and grime!
