Hello Colin, I don't know you but we may have passed, I'm at the classy end of the line based at Upminster.
Those "signals" as you put were originally meant for the H&C under the original OPO plans in the early 80's. The idea was that alarms similar to "D" Stock passenger alarm buttons were installed at Stations, the buttons survived at East Ham, blocked off until the station was modernized, if a dangerous situation occurred a person could operate the alarm which would cause the lights on the track to light up (yellow I believe) which the driver was meant to stop his train in the same way as you would with a Pass Alarm within the zone of the countdown markers now.
There was a reason why the scheme wasn't adopted but I can't remember what it was. HTH |
