County Commissioners Need a Pay Cut
It seems reasonable to me that if the City Council members make $200.00 a month in pay, the County Commissioners should be paid the same as well. Not the $40,000.00 a year they currently draw. Do I hear an AMEN ?

I would like to take a look at their personal finances, it's obvious they can't balance a budget, I would be willing to bet they are in a ton of debt. |

to hc: you poor misguided little puppy. this is a forum for sensible men and women to discuss real issues and not what our masters tell us to do or say. we realize that little things amuse little minds. so if you wish to be taken seriously, i recommend you go to the disney chat rooms where you make speak to others on your level. to je: i agree with you 100%.i would love to see a thorough audit done on every one of them.jfk |

jfk, you poor misguided cretin. Just because I disagree with you does not make me less of a contribution to this site. I love getting your panties in a wad. By the way, where is all your out of state friends that were supposed to show up. Probably on a disney chat room.

HC, you seem to be missing the point here. WE pay their SALARIES. I don't believe we're getting our money's worth out of them. They do the same work the City Council does and I cannot in good conscience reasonably say that they need $40k to do their jobs.

Name 1 **** government official that is EARNING their wage. None of em. Sorry, just the way I feel. But the pipe dream of them cutting their pay is NOT going to happen. I am just being a realist. NONE of them should be paid anything. It is a community service to serve the citizens. But they will never see it that way. It does not matter who sits in the seat. If it was anyone on this site in their shoes, you would NOT be screaming for pay cuts. |

HC: You might enjoy the spoils of a $40k cushy job like being a county commissioner, but IF I ran for one of those seats, I would in fact push for a reduction in support from $40k to $200.00 per month, the same as the City Council Members. Serving the Public Trust does not mean Pilfering from the public coffers is OK. Perhaps then, people who are honestly interested in serving would be elected to public office. Either way, they are ACCOUNTABLE to the PUBLIC for their actions or inactions. I just believe that $40k is way too much money to throw away on wannabe power mongers. If they truly want to serve, then let them do it like everyone else for $200.00 a month and work at real jobs and have a real life. It would be nice if everyone were handed $40k a year for doing nothing ! You could just sit on your duff and collect money you didn't earn like those on welfare do, at our expense.

GREAT! I encourage you to run on the platform that you are going to reduce your salary and those around you if elected. That should make you popular enough to get voted it! I hope you do! Good for you! Maybe then you will have a bigger platform to scream THE TIME IS ENDING!!!! |

HC: I'm sure that you think I need to run for Public Office. I've considered it in the past and I may consider it in the future. As for right now, I have a primary goal of getting my child graduated out of BSHS and off to college. That is more important to me than serving the public trust. If and when I decide to run, I'll let you know.

i have no problem with them earning a salary, when done correctly it is a job but the way they have been running thing's here for generation's it is an outrage. so many thing's in the past few month's being thrown at us or threatend at us by our (leader's) has gotten alot of people on edge who deserve to have their question's answered. they are not complying. in answer to your earlier question regarding our out of state friend's hc, you may tell your friend's that although we do not sympathise with their uneasiness of not knowing when the inevitable is coming, they might find comfort in knowing that we are waiting with baited breath as well. be patient. jfk |

Oh, HC. To further expand on your vast knowledge of finances. Let's say I did work at KFC, if I just saved 25$ a week into a roth ira from my current age (26) to retirement averaging 12% (the stock markets average since inception) Guess how much would be in there? Just $919,310. I would say that is enough to retire with dignity.

Bottom line here is this, just as other groups. Let's take our beloved City Council for example, They don't get paid for what they do. Why doesn't the County Commissioners take a leaf from their book and give their salary back to keep our Senior Citizens Center and our Library open. Oh? can someone tell me what they do for their money anyway? |

to +__+ i can only speculate that they are not doing anything beneficial for the city or citizen's of big spring. what i mean by that is in the past few month's we, the citizen's of b.s. and howard county, have been bombarded with multiple repair's to the water storage tank, the 1.5 mil upright tank, water lines, repair's at the water treatment plant, million's of dollars worth of repair's there, then there is the issue's of our school's needing a major overhaul at a 43 mil dollar price tag or 109 mil to build new one's, our road's... well those are a joke anyway not to mention the serious lack of new business' coming to town to create more job's to benefit the people and not just a selected few and so on and so on but they are giving big spring a new club house for the golf course at our expense. yeah! even though all of this hit right at about the same time, and i'm sure it is only a coincidence, it still make's me wonder what is really going on up there with the city and county folk. all of these project's are suppossed to be kept up with the money they are allocated every year to begin with. i just can't think of what their job description's entail. it obviously is not for the betterment of the city or the people but rather a place for a selected few to use as a tool to rob the rest of us blind. of course this is my own opinon arrived at by what i have witnessed over the year's. does anyone have any thought's on what the job description of our city council entail's? jfk |

When one or more county commissioner need to go out of town on county business thier expenses are paid for (should be). How many trips was made the last 6 years, and who made them? And dosen't each one of the county commissioners have privet business or jobs? Yes, yes, yes, they (county commissioners) make whopping wages. Good topic |

Having a County Commissioner being paid the salary of a full time job has come up in the past. The response then was that they get many complaints about county road problems and they spend many hours a week driving their areas checking out the complaints. Looking for road work needing to be done or supervising what is being done, etc. Right or wrong, I don't know. To Heaven's Messenger 777: I am curious what message you bring? Surely you can post the message? I assume it is something relative to the forum topics?

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the county employs a Road Supervisor who handles the actual network of county roads in Howard County. I have lived in other counties in Texas where the Commissioners performed this duty, but I do not believe that is the case here. |
