WARNING!!! WATCH YOUR VOTE!!!
I recieved a phone call from a CCC member this morning regarding their attempt to vote. It would appear that the electronic voting machines were experiencing some sort of difficulty or error when they voted. When the review page came up after they voted on all the issues, the ballot review indicated votes other than those they entered. According to the caller, it took four attempts before the review finally matched their desired vote. When alerted to the problem, an election official blamed the voter for the problem. So, the warning is this: CAREFULLY REVIEW YOUR BALLOT BEFORE HITTING THE "VOTE" BUTTON! If the review ballot is not indicating the way you want to vote, alert an election official immediately! Do NOT accept any explanation other than a correctly entered ballot. If any one else has run into this problem, please post about it here! =Shannon= |

I would ask them for the print out of my vote (because those machines can have printers attached) just so I can verify my answers. You have to remember these electronic machines are corruptable by those who program them to sway an election one way or another. Do you trust the PROGRAMMERS? Do you trust the OFFICIALS? I trust neither !

Don't know what happened to the rest of my preceding post. "We should demand voting machines which generate a verifiable paper trail." |

I had to do my vote twice the machine said I voted for the New Howard County Hilton and I voted NO!!!! But you know when a prisoner tells you that he was in jail and a week before the TCJS came and the sheriff had the smoke evacuation unit disasembled you start to wonder; how much of this is poppycock. And another thing that bugs me is if the county jail is so deplorable why is it going to be left open for 2+ years till the new one is built?????????????? dmf |

This is very alarming. The Secretary of State Elections Division and/or the Texas Rangers should be contacted immediately, in my opinion. It would be interesting to learn if dmf and the CCC member are in the same precinct and therefore voted on the same voting machine. |

used the second one from the door on the north wall as you go in to vote. do not know if an out of order sign was put on after we reported it or not. do not know how long it has been changing votes. had the same problem. voted against new jail, saw the red mark, heard the ding. reviewed and found the vote chaned to for the new jail. bet it doesn't change any of the for votes. |

In answer to the question, the CCC is considering other meeting places in the event that the library is closed, but nothing will be decided for sure unless the library actaully closes. In answer to booger: Please read the forum rules. =Shannon= |

I'm not very surprised. However when I voted no, my machine did not change the vote, I did review it and it stayed no. |

A friend of mine in the computer business asked that I post this: Every voting system can be manipulated if someone really puts their mind to it. Electronic Voting machines are probably safer than most. The integrity of the vote in any precinct is no better or worse than the integrity of the staff running the polling place and the competence of the officials in setting up the voting machine layouts. If there is an immediate paper trail that would let a voter verify that their vote was counted correctly and that can also be used to verify what the computer tallies come up with, then maybe e-voting would be a good thing. Computers in general are just not secure enough to be used for something like this. If we really care about our town / county and who runs it, we would realize that we have to have a secure system for choosing who we want as our leaders. If that means going back to paper voting, bolting the box to the floor, and only certain people having the access to move the boxes to the location where the counting would take place. Honestly there are not enough people in this county to make counting paper votes a problem. =Shannon= |
