upcoming vote
I just wanted to get an idea of what people are hearing about the upcoming jail vote. Do you think it will pass? Do the people you know support it? Give me a prediction. At times, I think it will be close. Other times I think it will be a blow out. |

I voted yes, as did the people I know. That means nothing though. Honestly, my feelings aside, I think it will be a close vote. To close to call. |

I know many more who are voting against than voting for the new jail. The one woman protest against elected officials' shameful scare tactics which was featured in the Big Spring Herald may have helped change more than a few minds of those who were marginally in favor of the new jail. The County Commissioners made a BIG mistake by threatening to possibly deny services to the elderly and children if the jail bond doesn't pass. I haven't heard a single elected official offer to take a pay cut to help build a new jail or pay for stupid mistakes like forgetting to cancel the Dickens county contract. I hope that voters will stop to consider the long term consequences of passing a bond allowing for the construction of a 'forced' jail. I agree that a downtown jail would have a better chance of being passed, but I'm not ever going to vote for a 40,000 square foot jail with bells, whistles, and flat screen televisions when a smaller, more economical "jail only" facility would serve our needs just fine. |

I know people going to vote no, but I also know people going to vote yes, so no matter which side you are on, we still need everyone's vote. |
