Dr. Steven D. Schaffersman: "Why West Texas Really Needs the American Civil Liberties Union"

Hall Center for the Arts
Howard College Campus, 1001 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, Texas

Monday October 15, 2007 7:00PM

Biography:
Steven Schaffersman is a science educator, consultant,
and writer living in Midland, Texas. He works in the petroleum and
environmental industries in West Texas and occasionally teaches science courses on
a part-time basis. He received his Ph.D. in geology from Rice University in 1983.
He has
publications in the fields of science, skepticism, education, and social
and philosophical issues, and he speaks frequently to groups on these
topics.

Dr. Schaffersman is an active supporter of accurate science
education and church-state separation. He is currently on
the board of the new Permian Basin Chapter of the
Texas ACLU. He is a member of Americans United for Separation of
Church
and State and several other organizations that value personal liberty,
critical thinking, secular government, and science. Among many other
topics, he has addressed audiences about the Establishment Clause of the U.S.
Constitution and what it means for science and education.
