Hello, Scared2Bath. Thanks for sharing the information. I have some questions: What is "Howard County WCID"? Seems like I've seen a sign for Coahoma's water treatment plant south of that town. But I have never heard of or seen a county water treatment plant. Do these entities obtain water from CRMWD, from wells, or both? Has the Howard County WCID contacted residents, et al with more information than is contained in the violation notices? The City of Coahoma? Have restaurants in the affected areas been contacted? What sort of health problems might arise from exposure to "microbial contamination" because of improperly disinfected public water supplies? Did the City of Big Spring have a similar violation notice? Are there liability issues? That's a question for an attorney--maybe an opportunity for said attorney, too. PS To add an image, place your image link between quotation marks "" and place next to the = mark in the following*, then paste into the message roughly where you want the image to be. In the example, I had to leave off the a < in front of the img src="yourimagelink.jpg" otherwise it makes the line invisible after the message is posted. * img src= ex. img src="www.yourimagelink.jpg" |

In response to question on health risks, there are: Infectious waterborne diseases such as Cholera, typhoid, hepatitis, and gastrointestinal diseases such as cryptospondiosis and giardiasis. For more info you can go to: www.mass.gov/dep/water/drinking/microb.pdf This PDF will also give other web sites you can go to. |

Also, Don't bother trying to get any news coverage to spread this info from local media. Sent copy of these two articles to channel 7 news asking them to please mention it on their news cast and let the people know about whats happening and they evidently ignored it. |

Big Spring sends out letters every year about the testing of the water. Does this mean that our "city fathers" have been deceiving us? What else have they lied to us about? I don't drink the water, but from reading the articles it seems to me that 'somebody" didn't want the citizens to know about this. Why wasn't this on the front page of the paper for all to see instead of hidden in the want ads? Could this be another "Erin Brockovich" situation? Does anybody know how to find out more about this? Maybe an attorney outside of this area. Also, the city and county are both broke. Were there fines levied? Is this why our taxes are maxed out instead of the reasons we've been told? Just wondering wnat is really going on to make our community leaders try to get money from wherever they can. How can they raise our taxes to cover Alon's? Doesn't make sense to me!!! |

HCWD 1 is a water district that serves the Sand Springs and Coahoma area. They buy water from CRMWD just like the city of Big Spring. That notice was sent to the the people served by HCWD1 I know I got one. Don't get your panties in a wad if you are in Big Spring, it might not have affected you. |

This definitely deserves investigation. Has anyone contacted NewsWest9 or Big2 in Midland? Someone told me that the City of Big Spring sold water to Coahoma, but he might have meant CRMWD. Another person told me that there was an article in the Big Spring Herald about the water violations problem within about the last 2 weeks. Can anyone confirm or deny this? |

I heard about the mandatory notice concerning the water yesterday so I decided to see if this person's concerns were valid and that he wasn't trying to spin me a yarn. Needless to say I have just read the 2 mandatory notices and some of the responses. First of all, these named entities have knowingly put the health of these residents at great risk for the last three and a half years. It is bad enough that the notices were hidden in with the rest of the classifides when in reality this should have been on the front page of the news and an immediate investigation should have been launched. I am very suprised that the editor and reporters of the big spring herald did not jump all over this. What happened to all of the money for the last three and a half years that these respective agencies are allocated to test and treat our water with? After seening these articles it is starting to make me think that there is something very wrong going on down town. If tceq investigated the water and found these horrible discrepencies they would have levied some pretty hefty fines for these acts which were apparently done on purpose for the last three and a half years. Now I am beginning to understand why all of a sudden in the last few months both the city and the county are all of the sudden "broke". Now they are looking for new ways to raise money in every way they can. For the last few months I have been wondering why there have been no district court rulings. There have been pleanty of filings but no court rulings. All of the recent trials were decided by a plea bargain and two murder trials were done back to back and both were completed and had the two found guilty and sentenced before lunch practically. What was the hurry on that? With the town leaders hiding this the way they did is now understandable. They got caught commiting these acts and were for months blaming the tax payers and Alon for their financial woes and are now maxing out everybody's taxes to cover their loss. Of course this is only my opinon and far be it from me to condradict the gentleman who responded saying that he got one of these notices and for everyone not to get their panties in a bind. So before we start calling anyone a truth bender I think it would be in the best interest of all the people of howard county where ever they may live to call for an immediate investigation and audit into all of the city and county offices as well as the district offices to determine what all damage has been done. We are now aware of the water, it is the things that we are unaware of that make me nervous and since all of our town leaders "love" us and care about this community so much i think they would have no objection to an independent audit to determine if any wrong doing or God forbid anything illegal were going on at we, the tax payers, expense. This is not a question of our leaders honor. They proved they have none or they would have gone public and made everyone aware of the situation immediately. Again this is my opinon but I think we citizens have the right to hold them accountable for their actions. |

I don't think the newspaper had any room left to make a big deal about something that could involve our health because they used all that space to tell us about ugly properies. Oh, yes, I forgot, those were advertisements, bought by keep BS beautiful...I just can't figure out what they were advertising...their crude and rude manner in dealing with what they perceive as an eyesore??? |

Below is a link to the print version and video link of the NewsWest9 story. Kudos and thanks to NewsWest9's Michael Stafford and Wyatt Goolsby for the investigative report. Maybe I'm being overly vigilant, but after seeing the report, does anyone wonder if the water MIGHT have been unsafe for a time even though it is safe now? Were the disinfectant levels ever so low that unsafe levels of bacterial or viral pathogens might have been end use delivered to consumers' faucets? after seeing the water violations report i have come to the conclusion that, after reading the comments, i am in agreement that our city and county leaders have alot of explaining to do. i will get back to the water in a bit, first, let's address the shortage of police officers. how can the city ever enact a drug task force when their own officers are quitting left and right. if i am not mistaken, we have had a serious drug problem in this town for years and to my recolection ther have not been very many grug busts except the o'ccasional user getting arrested. our city council, mayor and the police say they just do not have the resources to combat this influx of drug trafficing. if memory serves me right, there is the dps, the texas rangers, DEA, and other law enforcement agencies to call for help but i guess our local government leaders here expect everyone here to be as stupid as they want them to be. now as far as the district court goes, i researched it back, the court rulings, 14 weeks with no district court ruling's. not even a divorce was granted. 2 murder trials back to back and several plea bargains were announced. is the district court broke as well? now we come to the water. i watched the news report in the link listed above and i was not impressed. first, the issues of disinfection and testing were not addressed. i realize the water may now be good but what about the previous three and a half years? why wasn't the county represented in this news cast that told everyone at the beginning that this is the truth and not to worry. the news report reminded me of baghdad bob telling the world that the republican guard had destroyed our forces at saddam international airport. we all know the out come of that lie don't we. i agree with the comment made by "b". we need to call in the attorney generals office to have an investigation and audit done to clarify the situation down town. if our esteemed leaders have nothing to hide they should have no objections to this. just ask yourself big spring, how all of the sudden both the city and county are now broke and are raising our taxes to the max. now about that 11.57 million dollar jail that will cost the tax payers 850,000 dollars a year for 25 years not to mention the 450,000 dollars a year to run. in adding that up, it looks to me that the total will far surpass the 11.57 million that our county commissioners are currently drooling over. you do the math. our town is in alot of trouble big spring and it is going to be up to us to fix it and bring the responsable person or persons to justice. remember, they are suppossed to work for us not visa versa. |

i agree with "JE" that they are in office by being elected, however i disagree with his/her assumption that they do not have to explain anything. i am sure that the two mayors, the two state legislators and the other seven public officials from new jersey had the same attitude until FBI special agent Weysan Dun made them aware of the realities of the world when they were arrested on corrouption charges sep 6, 2007. now i am fairly sure that the FBI has jurisdiction even in big spring texas. there are too many things happening to this town and county to just be ignored. the most alarming, i think, is that the city and county both becam broke about the same time. i for one would like to know exactly why and why the people are going to be stuck paying for it again and again. enough. it is not only the right of the people to demand and get answers but it is also the responsability of our elected officials to do the job they were hired to do, excuse me "JE", elected to do in an honest way. when the people see these things, how broke they are, the water, the police department , the courts and so on and knowing that we are stuck with the bill we are going to demand answers. now everyone knows that the "town fathers and their lackey's" control everything. that includes the media. and that is a travisty but do rest assured that EVERYONE can be held accountable. |

Who is going to hold them accountable? Honestly? It isnt going to get a bunch of attention, and the complaints of a few will be smoothed over by the entire city administration. I don't agree with it either, but until they are voted out, there isn't much you can do other than tell others about it. And even then they are already so overburdened that I doubt they will take a hard look at it until someone becomes seriously ill or dies from it. Which no one has to my knowledge. |

Be sure to include the fact that on the settles website that troy tompkins city council member is listed as an owner and able to secure tax abatements and tax payer money for his own personal benefit. Also the fact that Brint Ryan admitted that the Mayor will be insuring the Settles, another member of the local administration able to secure public monies for his own private benefit. |

in the classified section of the oct 7th weekend paper on page 9c, there are going to be sealed bids accepted by the "honorable" mayor and city council for the following: materials only for the roy c. hester water treatment plant, flocculator drives. to the right of it is another acceptance for bid's for water system improvements, a 1.5 million gallon elevated storage tank rehabiliation. now if all tceq did was remind them to make sure that they report on time from now on so j.w. metcalf won't feel stupid any more then why the major overhaul on the plant, system, and storage tank? i'm guessing it's because there were some pretty hefty fines levied and now they are trying as best as they can to cover it up and pass the cost along to the rest of us for their actions. pretty soon we will have some answers to that and then our esteemed leaders who love this town and us so much can answer those question's after they have been sworn in. just wanted to let everyone know that this info will be passed on to our new out of state friends. have a great what's left of the weekend. jfk |

Interestingly enough, looking through the City of Big Spring water testing "Annual Consumer Report for XXXX on the Quality of Drinking Water", they have negated testing City of Big Spring water for BENZYNE. The test for BENZYNE is not listed on any of their documents from 2006 backward. BENZINE, if you folks don't know it, is listed as a major carcinogen. I have heard from a chemist in the area who has ran the Benzyne test on Big Spring water and found Benzyne levels 4-5 times greater than considered acceptable by the EPA. I would surmise that they are (1) either not running the test to omit the results, (2) not including the test results and omitting the results, or (3) purposely omitting the results to hide the truth from the public about the carcinogen levels in our water.

That's an amazing piece of information, Heaven's Messenger 777. Look through the forum for a thread talking about Big Spring streets and you'll see that the process the City of Big Spring used last year (and presumably for years before) raised alarm bells re Benzene. Apparently, if asphalt is "cut back" with diesel, it can possibly release Benzene and other chemicals to the surface which is then carried by rain to the storm water drains and onward. |
