poem from my daily journal

19720328 Tuesday
the monster cycle

my aged cracked black leather
was anothers skin now is my second skin
protecting me from the rage of the asphalt ghoddess

silently approaching the slumbering beast
her fire now banked dormant waiting wishing
capable of flaming to an instant inferno

her ritual begins
checking her controls
her drive chain her oil her tires

opening her fuel tank valve
the enchanting elixir of the petroleum ghoddess
slacking the thirst of her gasaholic carburetor

setting her choke
swinging our her kick start lever
mounting her

switching on her ignition
her cyclopean eye flashing to life enraged
demanding to know who is disturbing her slumber

my usual
high arching
starting kick

my right leg muscles tensing
my joints locking
my foot my ankle my knee

forcing her resistant pistons
to travel their familiar reciprocating paths
in her resilient twin cylinders of iron

the grand symphony of her motors parts
the heart of the beast
her intimate precise timing

her ignition points requesting receiving delivering
the holy fire of the electrical ghoddess
to the explosive mixture waiting inside her

igniting the air fuel mixture
the foul breath
of the petroleum ghoddess

her motor coughing
mocking my half hearted attempt
at disturbing her slumber

my second attempt more fierce
invoking the names of the ghoddesses
blaspheming them

the beast roaring
cloaking herself in smoke
shrieking in agony

her life giving blood of the petroleum ghoddess
not yet lubricating her internal parts
the beasts evil heart

the beast settling down to a steady
ruuump ruuump ruuump
anticipating quivering

the unseeing eye of the beast
reaching searching
futilely stabbing the black heart of the night ghoddess

mute elongated endless narrow yellow twins
dividing the asphalt ghoddess into death and life
betraying her evasive path

the high speed wobbling in her front wheel
warning begging imploring pleading
soliciting caution prudence wisdom

the beast bowing to the demands of the asphalt ghoddess
her rubber tires clawing grasping
the undulating surface

her metal parts rending sparks
paying homage
as her curtsies get lower and lower

my thighs pressing against her fuel tank
my feet resting upon her foot pegs
my hands gripping her handlebars

my right hand urging her onward
my body blending with hers
synchronized creating the magic

am i the beast or is the beast me
one mind many parts
daring living responding surviving

separating for the casual return journey
the asphalt ghoddess
now dociled humbled tamed

returning the beast to her lair
to her slumber the night air
cooling her heated parts unevenly

her hot parts ticking
voicing their annoyance
gradually finally quieting

the beast slumbering again
until the next time
her master rouses her demanding her to perform

to ride forth tempting the death ghoddess
denying her
mocking her and living
