A Serious Look at Case
I came across the unsolved case of Jodi on a WE tv doc. 4-30-08, read up on the facts (this site)and thought I'd just post my view of the case, that may be helpful to other posters for discussion or to the site.
This was a low or moderate risk victim and a high risk crime. The victim was a local tv personality, and so her celebrity status made her slightly more at risk for certain crimes, however the crime happened in her own apt. parking lot (which can be assumed to be a fairly low crime, secure place). The crime was high risk for the offender despite the late hour and dark lot as the victim would be immediately missed, and as a celebrity no effort would be spared to find her.
The facts the offender struck at so late an hour, left no clues, was not caught, seen, no body was ever found, that he brought a knife to the scene and probably other things he would need, indicate that this was done by an organized, expereienced and practiced offender. The key bent in the lock (as in a person in a panic to get in), the fact the victim was late for work that am and was carrying her cosmetics etc. with her also indicate an experienced offender and planned crime, as he would have to know her schedule and wait for her, and indicates the target was her, (the panic to get in the car).
There is no indication of robbery (nothing was taken from the lot, no cars broken into, including her car). Despite a river or woods running near the lot there's no indication a transient was involved who came from the woods/river (the victim or her body would've been found, and a transient would have no transportation from the scene, as the victims car remained). The idea that it was someone she knew well can also be dismissed....a man she knew well and saw regularly (like the man she was with the night prior) would have no reason to sit up at 4am in her parking lot and abduct her, he could've easily done that the night prior when she was at his house or at their next meeting, or at a place and time convenient for him. No way would someone who was currently seeing her choose so difficult a time and place, when so many other easier choices would present themselves. The place and the unusual hour strongly indicate...it was the only place the offender knew he could get at her.
So,....there seems only two possibilities for a suspect, one stronger, one weaker. A organized, practiced offender who had been watching her, and stalking her (including someone she'd known in the past, who'd became an enemy),who had committed similar crimes previous and was likely one of the serial offenders of the early and mid 90's....or....less likely...someone from the apt. complex who watched her and knew her early morning habits thereby.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
Jack a very good post my friend. I've been caught up in this crime for the last few years. And wet as far as driving to Mason City to ahve a look around. From what I could gather from the area the person or people would have taken a left out the parking lot where she lived. I think it was one person as we know the more people involved would sooner or later talk. Now even though this took place early in the morning one can assume that the person had to have driven somewhat fast. His heart pounding wondering if anyone saw or heard him. Now once this person left the parking lot he would ahve come to a stop sign and probably taken a right since that leads out of town. Once he did that he was home free. many places to drive to in the country in the early morning hours where he could do what ever he wanted and take his time. A scary thought I know.... I'm gonna guess he didn't do to far out of town thought because he would wanted to and need to finish his task. So with that said Jodi isn't far from home, we just need to find her and bring her home once and for all. Again Jack thanks for the post because people like you bring up some great points and bring this back to the our thoughts.

The thing about this, though, is that if it was someone she knew, they would not do it when she was at their house, or their next meeting, because chances are that she would have told someone she was meeting this person. This could have easily been someone she saw regularly, so I don't want to rule that out.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
I too became interested in this story due the nationally televised program on the case.
Two things that bother me immediately, One is several weeks prior to her disappearance she was being followed by a black pick up this has to be the abductor following her and getting her routine down pact. One of the dates she was followed she feared for her safety and ran to a nearby home for help and call the police. A partial plate could easily help locate a licence registered to a black pickup That is if in fact there was at least a partial licence number given to the police.
The second thing, is I recently read that some people heard screams and a woman yell out a name but the police have decided not to release the name given. This I find odd at this time as it has been 13 years and assuming your actively trying to find her holding back that information as no purpose at this time as the name may make a connection to someone who knew her or recently entered her life.
I do hope there is closure to this case for her and her families sake.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
I agree. Police should release the name that jodi supposedly screamed, this may help get other info from someone else.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
You know... it doesn't matter what name she called out. The police know what it is and it didn't help them solve this case.
They need more evidence to go on than just a first name. Considering that they know his first name... he should consider that fact and clear his conscious.
Hey... they know your name... now do the right thing!!!! Mr. **** give her family closure. You owe Jodi that much.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
Muskgrove, I disagree. It does matter for people working on the case other than police. There has been alot of work done by people other than police. Take the people who started this website for example, they interviewed people the police never interviewed. Such as John Vansice's neighbors living in the duplex he lived in at the time of Jodi's disappearance.

Re: A Serious Look at Case
Of course it matters. In the beginning I understand the police withholding some information but at this point in time it serves no useful purpose. With the release of the name it may jar someones memory of a person she only recently met but never mentioned as important.
At this stage EVERYTHING no matter how small or trivial it may seem may be the key that opens things up.
