Think Logically and forget about the media.

Why would Cindy say all this? For money? for fame? if she is lieing, then she would have had to know from the beginning that she would never get away with this. If she wanted to just fool some people, she never would have given her real name, sat down for and interview nor taken a ride with them to the farm where it supposedly went down. So lets assume she is telling the truth. Why would she recant her story? The police told her to keep quiet so they could work on cracking the case without suspects running off and what not, she had second thoughts and feared for her life, she received a threat...there are several reasons that someone would recant their story and I havent read anything so far that says that her ENTIRE STORY is a lie, she only recanted parts of it apparently. She obviously seems to know more info about what shes talking about than the average lier would. She had names, dates, details, she even took them to the farm...and I'm sure theres much more details that we will never hear about. Thats a lot of research to put into a lie that she knew she'd be caught in. The police cant release everything just yet, they need time to work on the case. The suspects and the evidence is still out there and Cindy going public like this could jepordize the whole case. She should have went to the police first instead of going public, but why? maybe she doesnt trust the police? Ive read quite a few posts on this very site that talks about the shady police force in Mason City. Im not saying that I belive Cindy, but I'm not gonna be so quick to rule EVERYTHING out so quick. There hasnt been any proof that says she IS lieing.

Re: Think Logically and forget about the media.

On the other hand...maybe the whole thing was fabricated by the media. Slow news day or something. Its seems that every six months or so Jodi pops up in the news for some reason or another. It wasnt too long ago when Jimmy Hoffa came up in the news and nothing came out of that, but I bet it sold some papers and got some viewers. Someone should check and see if this Cindy is even a real person. It kind of surprises me that they released her full name and the city she is from, what ever happend to protecting potential witnesses? even if she is lieing they shouldnt give out that info.

Re: Think Logically and forget about the media.

Seriously doubt this is a fabrication by the media. To me this is just a sad replay of the "Jon Benet Ramsey Confessor" that turned out to be a hoax. I suspect that is why the story did not get national media attention. THe big outlets wanted to wait until the police put out a confirmation before running with it.

well she did. and she needs mental help... that was unfair to her family and friends... the details were terrible, and should not of been on tv.

I agree Rona. The TV station should have waited until after the MCPD spoke with the witness before airing the interview.

Just thinking maybe if the investigators and the media put her on the defensive right away, doubted her story and accused her of being an opportunist, and it appears they did, that she might recant her story even if it was true. She might have just decided it wasn't worth the browbeating.

"Think Logically and forget about the media."
-----------------------------
How can you forget about the media when one of its crown jewel gets abducted? Do i need to remind you what happens to the journalists and defected spies in this world today? A celebrity is always a target by default.

Only thing is that Jodi was not a threat herself to anyone but the media always is. And, that is when truth in reporting comes. This is the reason why most national TV personalities have some protection, simply because they reveal too much for some to endure. The spin stations have even extra security because they get hate mail all the time.

Mind you, a grudge can be as old as you can think of. But the begrudged must have some kind of recognition in the end because he also needs a closure, even the criminals. A terrorist never does anything without taking the responsibility. It is in their nature.

Someone has said that Jodi had worked in Vegas. Has this been explored? There was a recent cold blooded murder of a 30 year old very "likable" man who was shot dead in his driveway with his car still running. He had been in Vegas etc....

i don't think that it is Vegas but it is probably about who was rejected and how. The suspicions that Jodi and Pruin were stalked before their capital events means that there was a plot afoot and they sensed it.

Fierce competition is the rule in media and probably comes with a price. TV is a very powerful thing. Once on TV, people will pick you out of nowhere, mostly in a good way but...

The person who did this on the basis of grudge against media prob considered abduction of a child but that was very risky. Missing adult is apparently not pursued with as much zeal, they knew that, is not an implausible theory that needs full exploration.

Re: Think Logically and forget about the media.

I agree with Barry. Both the family and police were deeply disturbed about how the media handled "Cindy's" story. It was very wrong.

I know that Fox 9 in the Twin Cities has received literally hundreds of complaints. Fox 9 did run the Cindy’s recanting at the top of their news but only once at 9 pm (they have a 10 pm newscast as well).

I listened to an interview on a local morning radio show with Fox 9‘s anchor. He was somewhat apologetic about the incident but tried to shift blame to the police, saying that police had told the station that it was a very credible lead.

Everybody makes mistakes and we all can understand that. But, from the media, all I hear is excuses when all that’s needed is an apology. Why is it so hard to say we screwed up and we’re sorry?

Re: Think Logically and forget about the media.

Bill, I think if the media were to apologize they would ruin their own credibility thus they'd lose money and of course that is what it's all about for them. There is some truth in publishing but there is also blarney.
